In Tizard Hall there are two sets of people – additional to first year undergraduates – who live in the hall and help with supporting you and also organising a host of fun events for everyone to participate in.
The Wardens are responsible for students’ welfare, providing pastoral care and ensuring well-being. The Wardens should also be contacted if there is an emergency within the hall between 18:00 – 08:00 on the duty phone number +44 7872 850104 – please note, if there is an emergency at another time then you should call Imperial security on internal landline 4444 or +44 20 7589 1000 from your mobile. The Wardens are always there if you need to chat about absolutely anything!
Monica
Warden, Floor 5
A warm welcome to Tizard, a fantastic hall in the best part of London. I am Monica and I am the Warden of the Hall, so I head the dedicated team of subwardens and hall seniors who are all here to help you have a fun and successful first year at Imperial, and I want Tizard to be your home away from home. My ‘other job’ is as a Reader in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. I research Energy Storage and I specialise in modelling batteries and supercapacitors for electric cars, and I also teach Mathematics.
I live on the 5th floor with my family – my husband Tim and my nine year old son Julian, the youngest resident in Tizard. You will often see us around: running in the Prince’s Gardens; and the halls’ corridors. Julian will definitely not miss events with ice-cream!
I have been at Imperial for 15 years. I studied here for my PhD, and then worked as a researcher and an academic. I believe Imperial is the greatest place to study and work, full of diversity and innovation. We are close to theatres and concert halls, and I relish the opportunity to spontaneously go to cultural events. Before London, I lived in Romania, United States of America, Germany and Australia. In my spare time, I enjoy travelling, taking advantage of London’s amazingly diverse cultural life and spending time with my family.
My team and I are here to help you with any queries and provide advice and support. You can reach us on tizard.wardens@imperial.ac.uk or on the duty phone – we are always happy to help. We are looking forward to welcoming you to Tizard!
Josh
Subwarden, Floor 2
Hello! My name is Josh and I’m one of the subwardens on the amazing warden team at Tizard!
I’m a third year PhD student in the maths department and I was also here for my MSc back in 2020, so that’s a grand total of 3 years at Imperial. There aren’t many places in London more amazing to live than South Kensington, and I should know as I’ve lived in London (nearly) all of my life!
Please do not hesitate to come and talk to me or any member of the team about any concerns you may have, from the minor to the major – we’re all here to help you have the most enjoyable first year possible at Imperial!
Bohan
Subwarden, Floor 3
Hello! My name is Bohan. I am one of the sub-wardens in Tizard this year. I am a third year PhD student in the Department of Aeronautics and my research is focusing on Design for Additive Manufacturing and the potential applying machine learning to it. As an aviation geek, I enjoy plane spotting during my free time, usually at Heathrow Airport. I also like playing table tennis and walking around Hyde Park.
Just like you guys, I started my journey at Imperial as an undergraduate fresher by living in Tizard. Hence, feel free to ask if you need any advice – whether it’s on Imperial life or where to eat.
We look forward to welcoming you to Tizard and all the best to your journey at Imperial!
Sasha
Subwarden, Floor 4
Hello, I’m Sasha, a Sub-warden in Tizard this year. I am a second year PhD student in Chemical engineering looking at sustainable process for biomass. My project focuses on isolating different bio-polymers found in woods and grasses for use in many different applications.
London is a really fun city to live in so I enjoy spending my weekends taking advantage of all the things to do here and walking around the city is a great way to see it. I also enjoy swimming and spending time in the countryside.
Don’t hesitate to have a chat or ask any questions!
